Greyson is originally an English surname with a few meanings, depending on where it originated. In England, the name might have meant "son of the steward" or "son of the reeve," referring to common positions held in Great Britain during the Middle Ages. Stewards and reeves were attendants or servants to the lord of the manor assigned specific tasks.

Greyson can also be considered a variant of the Scottish clan name Grierson, which means "son of Grier," a Scottish version of the name Gregory (meaning "watchful" in Latin).

The name is more commonly spelled Grayson – the Greyson spelling didn't appear in the top 1,000 U.S. baby names until 1995 (while Grayson has been on the charts since 1984). Greyson first broke into the top 100 boys' names in 2016, peaking at No. 77 in 2018.
