Evie

Evie name meaning and origin

Evie is a diminutive of several names, and is often associated with the name Eve. Believed to derive from the Hebrew word hayya, meaning "living" or "animal," Eve is the first woman God created in the Bible.

Eva is another popular version of this name. Other names Evie can be short for include Evelyn, Evangeline, Evita, and Genevieve.

Evie was relatively popular in the early 1900s and spent about a decade in the top 500 names in the United States – though it has never reached the popularity of related names like Evelyn or Eva. Evie even fell out of the top 1,000 names altogether from 1942 until 2007.

There has been a bit of a resurgence since the early 2000s, and Evie had its most popular year in 2022, reaching No. 275.
